How Elite Five Sushi & Grill compares with other japanese & sushi in Princeton

Before you go

  • Ask about allergens when you order: US food law names nine major allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame), and kitchens can tell you which dishes contain them.
  • Restaurant inspection results are kept by the city or county health department; many publish them online or post the latest grade at the door.
  • For table service a tip of 15–20% is customary; at counter-service places tipping is optional.

Decent sushi option but definitely overpriced. I’d give the fish a 4 star rating for quality (non-Japan scale) but I have to give the restaurant a 3 because of cost performance. The Sushi Supreme was $35 before tax. Sashimi Supreme was $36 before tax. Miso soup was $5. Oddly the one that actually seemed somewhat reasonable was the imported Hokkaido uni at $12. Knowing the costs/lengths it takes to import uni from Hokkaido all the way to Princeton, I could appreciate the effort. It was creamy and had good flavor but certainly not as fresh as eating it in Japan so go in with the right expectations. Service was polite. Do note that you need to pay for street parking. Lastly, the restaurant appears to have an upscale ambience from marketing materials but the interior is a bit old and worn already.

Elite 5 delivers a dining experience defined by a rare level of intentionality and technical skill. What stands out immediately is the unique identity of every dish; the flavors are refined and balanced rather than overpowering, allowing the distinct character of each individual roll to shine through. It is clear that the focus here is on quality and craftsmanship rather than following a standard template. The Fire and Ice sushi is a true standout and a masterclass in culinary innovation. By removing the rice entirely, the dish highlights the pure quality of the fish, complemented perfectly by the texture of the caviar on every piece. Visually, it is stunning, but the taste is even more impressive, offering a sophisticated profile that I haven't encountered anywhere else. The attention to detail extends to the very end of the meal, maintaining a standard of excellence that is frankly unmatched. Even the ice cream plate arrived with perfect 90Β° angles, showcasing a level of geometric precision that speaks to the restaurant's discipline. I have never seen this level of artistry in a sushi restaurant before, making it a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

We had the Kushiyaki/yakitori and they didnt last long enough for me to get a picture. Fantastic all around

The omakase sampler was excellent and highly recommended. The edamame is made with garlic and chili. We tried the Dynamite roll and the Summer roll. The dynamite roll is made with soy bean skin rather than seaweed. For desert the creme brulee was really good.

Quite the contentful meal for my wife and I (both vegetarian). We didn't have any bad dishes, some stood out more than others. Stand out dishes: veggie gyoza (pan fried), tofu yakitori (skewers), yakisoba (made to be vegetarian), an espresso creme brulee (don't recall the exact name). Other dishes we enjoyed: miso soup, edamame, all 5 veggie yakitori skewers (tofu, shishito peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, asparagus), sweet mango signature maki roll, sweet potato roll, yakisoba noodles (made vegetarian, served hot). I'd go back, particularly, for the stand out dishes I mentioned and would have plenty of food to enjoy as a vegetarian.
